The Angel Hotel has long been famous for it’s Afternoon Tea, a feast of dainty sandwiches, buttery savoury pastries, sweet treats, cakes and scones served on tiered silver cake stands and has more recently been awarded 2 Rosettes and a Breakfast Award by the AA alongside an entry in the Good Food Guide in 2024. Known for its innovative approach to local ingredients and its warm, welcoming atmosphere, and being at the heart of the annual Food Festival, the hotel has always been a favourite among food lovers. The hotel's stylish restaurant, The Oak Room and the more relaxed and cosy Foxhunter Bar have become renowned for special seasonal menus, carefully created to showcase the best of local and national produce. Over the past year these have included menus designed around Wye Valley asparagus in the spring, a lobster and shellfish menu throughout the summer and cep mushrooms foraged locally in the autumn. The set Prix Fixe offers a two course menu at lunch and dinner everyday (excluding Sunday lunch).

We are absolutely thrilled. This award is a testament to the hard work and passion of our entire team. We are proud to be part of Abergavenny's vibrant food scene, and look forward to continuing to offer outstanding dining experiences for years to come.”

The Angel Hotel

The Angel Hotel’s commitment to culinary excellence extends beyond its restaurant. The hotel is proud to be part of a family of local businesses ‘House of Caradog’ that share a passion for outstanding hospitality, sourcing and providing a range of exceptional products, unique and interesting events and memorable experiences.

These include:

  • The Angel Bakery – opened their doors in 2016, with a staff of just two bakers, making and selling long-fermented sourdough breads and pastries directly from our bakery in the heart of Abergavenny. The business has grown to provide wholesale to businesses across Monmouthshire, Bristol and Cardiff and the Bakery and Larder Shop located opposite the hotel on Cross Street serves coffees and ready to eat sandwiches, pastries and snacks as well as bread, fresh local produce, larder essentials and bio-dynamic wines.
  • The Walnut Tree Inn – long standing Michelin-starred restaurant just outside of the main town is famous for its seasonal menus rooted in classical culinary tradition that feel simple and contemporary, all created by Shaun Hill.
  • The Art Shop and Chapel – This unique venue combines art, culture, and dining in a stunning setting. Clients can enjoy a range of dishes designed for the vegan, vegetarian and meat-eater, freshly baked cakes and sweet treats daily sitting amongst showcase collections of jewellery, textiles and ceramics.

In addition to the wonderful culinary experiences on offer, the Angel Hotel has teamed up with local businesses to create overnight breaks that offer visitors an opportunity to experience other local food-based activities such as the following;

  • Foraging Break – A truly unique opportunity to explore the stunning landscapes of Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) and learn about foraging for wild food with expert guide and author Adele Nozedar. This special break includes a hands-on foraging experience, followed by a meal prepared using the ingredients collected during the foraging walk.
  • White Castle Vineyard Break – Your clients can enjoy a special stay that includes a tour and wine tasting at the nearby, award winning, White Castle Vineyard. This exclusive offer allows guests to sample some of the finest local wines while learning about the winemaking process in a beautiful vineyard setting.
