The Elan Valley Lakes Project is a £21.7m investment to strengthen the sustainable tourism offer in Mid Wales. It will create a world-class destination and boost economic growth. It is the anchor for the sustainable tourism project within the Mid Wales Growth Deal portfolio.
Elan Valley Lakes will transform the visitor experience, create and secure jobs, and provide new skills and training opportunities. The investment will enhance biodiversity and minimise environmental impact through low carbon development and the use of renewable energy sources, contributing to Welsh Water’s journey to net zero emissions.
The redevelopment of the visitor centre at Elan Valley will include an exhibition and multimedia experience, with a Planetarium to celebrate the importance of the Elan Valley as an International Dark Skies Park. New facilities include a new café with panoramic views over the dam – with its spectacular waterfall when in full spill.
A new self-guided Celtic Rainforest walking trail around Cnwch wood is due to be launched in August 2025, with new signage and interpretation guiding visitors around the Celtic Rainforest. Details of the new walk will be added to the Elan Valley walking webpage.
