Caerphilly Castle, Wales’ largest fortress, is being transformed to enhance its status as a world-class heritage attraction, through a programme of vital conservation and development work. It is due to be completed by Summer 2026.

Plans include:

  • a brand new visitor centre will be built within the castle grounds, to include: visitor welcome and ticketing, catering facilities, toilets, and a room for educational use;
  • the existing shop will be fully refurbished
  • access to paths across the castle grounds will be improved, allowing wheelchair users to enjoy even more historic adventures.

Central to the project is a £1m investment in historic interpretation at the site, using cutting-edge digital techniques to tell the stories of the men and women who built and lived in the castle.

The Great Hall is also getting a majestic medieval makeover. Restoring the UK’s largest Great Hall of its period will be no mean feat ― but once complete, it will recreate the ambience and grandeur of its 13th century heyday.
