About A J Ludlow Colours Watercolour Painting-café
Based in Llanreath, A J Ludlow Colours comprises of the Watercolour Painting-café and artist's studio. There is also a watercolour paint making workshop, which can be visited as part of a pre-arranged tour, which is not available to our tourist visitors, except those that have booked through our travel trade partners.
It is in the studio that we offer watercolour painting as an indoor activity and passionately promote it as a means of well-being and a great way to de-stress and unwind; watercolour painting as a creative artform, has long been recognised for its relaxing and therapeutic nature. Watercolour painting is also fun and, in the studio’s relaxed environment, is the ideal place for some me-time or, under the guidance of our expert tutor, a great place to learn a new hobby whilst on holiday.
At the Watercolour Painting-café we offer:
• Watercolour painting experiences, including painting workshops and short courses;
• A watercolour art supplies shop, selling our own handmade Professional Watercolour paints, a selection of artisan made Chinese traditional painting brushes and watercolour paper from St Cuthberts Mill;
• The opportunity to view and buy original and affordable art from our gallery;
• A tasty dimension to the visit, with an expertly made cup of coffee or tea and delicious sandwiches from our lunch menu*, to really make the visit special.
In addition, we offer a guided tour and demonstration of making traditional artists' watercolour paints. The tour will include a visit to the colour workshop, a talk on the process of making watercolours, testing the finished paints and what to look for, with some hands-on participation.
Tour parties will be limited to a maximum of 10 people. It is expected that the participants in the tour will be adults, who paint in watercolours and take a serious interest in the quality of paint they use. The tour will involve climbing a flight of 14 stairs. Children are welcome, but it must be recognised that this tour and hands-on activity are not primarily aimed at them and they must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
The work of the Traditional Artists' Colourman is often shrouded in mystery and alchemy, but in reality, it is a craft requiring knowledge of both art and science. This tour and hands-on activity have been designed to shed light on the interesting work of an Artists' Colourman and show the complexities and skill needed to create what most artists take for granted.
If you would like to work with us to provide a unique and interesting activity for your clients, then please contact us directly.
