About National Wool Museum
Wool was once one of Wales' most important industries. Located in historic Cambrian Mills, from where Welsh woollen blankets, stockings, shirts and shawls were sent around the world, the National Wool Museum offers engaging experiences and learning for all ages.
Find out how wool is processed from the fleece to the fabric on our self-guided trails, explore exhibitions on the history of cloth-making and its use in fashion, and try your hand at traditional skills such as carding and spinning. Our craftspeople also demonstrate their skills on the traditional machinery and explain how blankets are made.
The National Wool Museum is part of Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales, a family of seven national museums across Wales.
The National Wool Museum has excellent visitor facilities, including a café and shop. Our shop sells local Welsh wool and blankets, some even made at the museum!
You are welcome to bring a picnic. While there’s nowhere to eat these within the museum, there are benches in the garden outside which make for a nice spot. Lunches in the café can be booked for groups.
Opening times:
10am - 5pm Open five days/week, Tuesday - Saturday. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Dogs are not allowed inside the museum buildings but are welcome outside and must be kept on a lead.
