About Cambrian Cottages

Overview

Cambrian Cottages is an award-winning eco-friendly self-catering property in rural Carmarthenshire, near Carmarthen, comprising three apartments that can be booked individually or together. Sleeping up to 10 guests in total, the property is well suited to FITs, couples, families, friends, walkers, cyclists and guests seeking nature-based or activity-led stays in West Wales.

Location

Located in Gwyddgrug, around 12 miles north of Carmarthen and just half a mile from the A485, Cambrian Cottages offers a peaceful rural setting with straightforward access from the M4 and A48. Its central location makes it a practical base for exploring Carmarthenshire, the Cambrian Mountains, Brechfa Forest, the Teifi Valley and both the north and south coast beaches within around 40 minutes.

Setting

The apartments are set within five acres of farmland with views towards Llanllwni mountain, Brechfa Forest and the distant Preseli Hills. Guests are welcome to explore the site and can also use the seating area beside the Afon Gorwydd, which runs through the bottom of the valley.

Accommodation

The three apartments are set within a carefully restored Victorian barn and combine original character with modern comfort. Each apartment includes a fully equipped kitchen with induction hob, oven, fridge, microwave, dishwasher, kettle, toaster and complimentary welcome pack, together with Wi-Fi, Freesat TV, Disney+, walk-in shower, quality linen and toiletries.

Remote working is supported by 4G Wi-Fi, good mobile coverage on most networks, power points and suitable table space in each apartment. Dogs are welcome by arrangement.

Apartment types

The apartments can be booked separately or together, making the property suitable for both individual stays and small group use.

  • Y Cwt Mochyn - a one-bedroom apartment for up to two guests, best suited to couples.
  • Y Llofft Wair - a two-bedroom ground-floor apartment for up to four guests, particularly well suited to families with children. The second bedroom has adult-sized bunk beds.
  • Y Llofft Stabl - a slightly larger two-bedroom first-floor apartment for up to four guests, with a king-size bedroom and a twin bedroom. It is well suited to adults, older children, friends or small families.

The apartments are self-catering, with a range of pubs and restaurants serving Welsh food within around 30 minutes. Private dining can also be arranged with a local chef.

Sustainability is central to the business. Cambrian Cottages holds Green Tourism Gold accreditation and was the winner of the 2025 National Tourism Awards for Wales 'Bro a Byd' Sustainability Award. The property also holds Visit Wales 4-star grading together with Walkers Welcome, Cyclists Welcome and Pets Welcome recognition.
