Morgans opened to great acclaim in 2002, following a nine month refurbishment of the Grade 2* listed building, which originally housed the Associated British Ports Authority, and is steeped in maritime history. It was originally built in 1902 and re-opened as Morgans 100 years later.
All the rooms are named after ships that were registered or built in Swansea in the last century, a time when intrepid sailors ventured accross the world to exotic and remote places such as Valparaiso in Chile, Newfoundland and South America, and many sailers became Cape Horners in their quest for trade around the world.
Morgans is a privately owned boutique hotel, with twenty bedrooms, all with en suite bathrooms and a restaurant. Morgans Bar, is a relaxing area with leather sofas which by day has become THE place to sit and have a leisurely coffee and read the day's papers. Bar snacks are served all day, and afternoon teas featuring Welsh Cakes and scones provide a welcome break after city centre shopping or bracing walks along the beach or around the city maritime quarter. Alternatively, if you prefer a more up-beat location, The Champagne Bar with its clean lines, modern architectural glass and bespoke champagne tables is the place to sit and sip your champagne and watch the world from it's mezzanine floor.
Morgans has been described as being unashamedly modern whilst still paying homage to its past, and a walk around this beautiful building will endorse this remark.
From the beautiful original staircase with the cuppola housing historical stained glass depicting points of the compass, to the sleek lines of the bedrooms which all feature LCD tv's, dvd and cd players, wireless internet, mini bars, trouser presses, hairdryers, safes and top quality robes, to the egyptian cotton bed linen and suede curtains enhancing the beautifully proportioned windows, and risque double showers featured in some of the bathrooms, Morgans has lavished care and attention to ensure that a guest's every need is catered for.
