One of Brecon’s most historic landmarks has reopened its doors, unveiling a stunning transformation following a £3 million refurbishment.
In April 2025, the Castle of Brecon Hotel, part of the Coaching Inn Group, was fully restored inside and out. The hotel offers 42 guest bedrooms, a restaurant, bar, and social spaces, which blend modern comfort with centuries of character. Situated within the remains of the original Brecon Castle, the property now offers a refreshed, yet timeless retreat in the heart of Wales.
The hotel marked its grand reopening with a VIP celebration attended by local guests, community members, and dignitaries. Cllr John Powell, Mayor of Brecon, officially reopened the hotel by pouring its ceremonial first pint, before guests enjoyed canapés, drinks, and live music from local performers.
Mike Pope, Castle of Brecon Hotel General ManagerThe refurbishment has allowed us to elevate our offering while preserving the character and charm that make this hotel so special.”
The hotel’s refreshed restaurant and bar now offer a welcoming setting for up to 100 diners, featuring a brand-new menu that celebrates Welsh ingredients and regional flavours. Signature dishes include Welsh Rarebit, Lamb Faggot with Brecon Ale gravy, and Caerphilly and Leek Welsh cakes — all designed to showcase the area’s culinary heritage. Head Chef Riki Macdonald said the menu was inspired by modernising classic recipes using local produce.
Every bedroom has been individually styled to reflect the group’s signature 'Hospitality from the Heart' ethos. Your clients can choose from Classic, Superior, or Deluxe options, with rooms named after local landmarks, giving the hotel a true sense of place.
Two brand-new suites - The Crug Suite and The Usk Suite - provide flexible options for celebrations, and private dining for up to 50 guests.
The reopening signals a new chapter for this much-loved hotel, combining history, community spirit, and contemporary comfort in equal measure.
