World Stage Design 2013 is a celebration of international performance design from the world of theatre, opera and dance which will take place in Cardiff, UK between 5 – 15 September 2013, hosted by the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.
The ten day event will feature an exhibition of global performance design from some of the world’s most prolific theatre designers alongside Scenofest, a full programme of events including productions, workshops, talks and seminars hosted by leading industry experts.
The series of events will cover all aspects of stage design from costume to puppetry, sound and lighting design to production skills and performance art and installation. The event also features a series of presentations, seminars and workshops and a programme of events exploring sustainability in creative practice, including a competition to design a temporal sustainable theatre space – the winning design will be built during the event.
World Stage Design takes place every four years. Beginning in Toronto in 2005 the event then travelled to Seoul in 2009. In 2013 Cardiff will play host to this diverse festival which draws hundreds of visitors from around the globe.
Full scheduling for World Stage Design 2013 will be announced in June 2013. Confirmed contributors include Vin Burnham (costumes for the Batman film & Lady Gaga), Robert Allsopp (X-Men, Gladiator, Lost in Space); Julies Bicycle and Arcola Theatre. The Welsh-language national theatre of Wales Theatr Genedlaethol and National Dance Company Wales will also be collaborating with WSD2013 on the unmissable programme of events.
WSD2013 is a rare opportunity for anyone interested in the arts to experience the true wonder of performance design. Exhibition entry is free to the public, and tickets for performances and workshops will start at £5.
