Walking in Snowdonia

HF Holidays is 100 this year

HF Holidays, the UK’s largest walking and leisure activity holidays provider, offers holidays in Wales at three of its Visit Wales-assessed properties. HF Holidays is celebrating a milestone in 2013, a centenary of walking holidays and the enjoyment of the outdoors. The former Holiday Fellowship’s history and early beginnings are closely tied to North Wales with its first headquarters set up at Bryn Corach in Conwy, a centre purchased in 1914 and owned by the society for 97 years until 2011. TA Leonard, Holiday Fellowship’s founder, lived at Bryn Corach for much of his later life. He also helped create the Youth Hostels Association and chaired the first national meeting of the Ramblers Association in 1935.

Expansion at Craflwyn Hall, Beddgelert

HF Holidays expanded on its offering of walking holidays in Snowdonia by acquiring National Trust’s Craflwyn Hall at Beddgelert on a long-term lease arrangement in early 2012. Originally a hunting lodge, the property is now assessed as 4* Guests Accommodation level and offers fantastic location at the base of Snowdon.

In response to very positive feedback from guests, HF Holidays is pleased to have received approval from the National Trust to convert former stables and offices behind the main house to create an additional 12 new bedrooms, and work is underway now in time for the 2013 season.

Award-winning Dolserau Hall

Dolserau Hall near Dolgellau has been presented with a Visit Wales’ Gold Award for its outstanding comfort and hospitality. The Victorian manor house which holds 3* Hotel grade provides accommodation to walkers and outdoor enthusiasts looking to explore the Welsh coast, Snowdonia National Park and beyond. The 23-bedroom Dolserau Hall offers delicious food in an AA rosette-standard restaurant and bistro, spacious lounges to relax in and 5 acres of gardens to explore.

Louise Oakley, Dolserau Hall’s Hotel Manager, has commented on the news: “We are thrilled to receive such recognition amongst all hotels in Wales. It rewards the dedication and hard work of the entire team at Dolserau Hall who tirelessly look after our guests all year round. We look forward to building on our success this year and welcoming many more guests to our wonderful part of Snowdonia.”

Exploring the best of the Beacons

HF Holidays offers walking holidays in the Brecon Beacons from its 4* Guest Accommodation Nythfa House on the edge of Brecon. For 2013, the walking holiday programme has been revamped and improved linking together the peaks and vistas showcasing the absolute best of the region.

John MacLeod, UK Walks Operations Manager, explains: “Walking from Brecon is a fabulous proposition for anyone – easily accessible high broad crests where you get high and stay high all day, and some of the best waterfalls in the UK. If you live in the south you’re blessed that it’s your nearest wild mountain country, 170 miles/3hrs 30mins hours from London.”
