Spectacular time lapse footage captures stars passing over historic Welsh sites - A stunning time-lapse video showing stars passing over Wales’s historic sites has been released today (01 December 2015) by the Welsh Government’s historic environment service (Cadw), offering Wales’s answer to the annual Christmas advert race.
Available to watch on Cadw’s YouTube channel, the video was shot using night time-lapse photography and designed to promote Cadw gift membership during the run-up to Christmas.
The first of its kind to be revealed in Wales, the incredible video shows spectacular footage of the stars passing over Raglan Castle, Harlech Castle, Tintern Abbey and Castell Coch - with the strapline ‘Out of this world adventures in 2016’.
The video, which was inspired by the ever-growing popularity and creativity of brand festive adverts, from the man on the moon to the adventures of childhood literary characters, is set to a specially recorded Welsh-language version of ‘Silent Night’ performed by Bethan Williams-Jones, of folk-band, Calan.
The video was planned for months, as conditions had to be just right to create the final effect. Cloud cover, the brightness of the moon and the positioning of the milky-way were just some of the factors that had to be taken into consideration before filming could take place – before hours of footage was then edited to produce the 60 second ad.
Having previously released CGI reconstructions of ruined sites, an aerial video series and even time-lapse footage of castles built out of Lego, Cadw is known for its innovative digital creations.
