Top 100 Spots for Welsh Courses

Aberdovey Golf Club

Aberdovey, Nefyn & District, Royal Porthcawl and Royal St David’s make Golf Monthly magazine’s list of best courses in UK and Ireland.

The magazine’s latest ranking sees Aberdovey climb nine places to number 58. The reviewers draw particular attention to the course’s bunkers which have recently been revamped to bring greater definition and framing to the holes.

According to Golf Monthly: ‘If you haven’t visited for some years you won’t believe the transformation.’

Royal Porthcawl held on to its position as the highest-rated Welsh course at number 28. The venue for the 2014 Senior Open Championship received plaudits for the quality of its links. ‘For the accomplished golfer looking to play on one of the best links courses, this is a must play,’ was Golf Monthly’s verdict.

The spectacular Old Course at Nefyn came in at number 95, with Golf Monthly’s panellists describing it ‘as enjoyable to walk as it is to play.’

Finally, Royal St David’s at Harlech climbed three places to secure the number 46 spot. The panellists cite both its setting and its excellent value for money, describing it as ‘a great course in a beautiful, peaceful location that makes a fantastic venue for a day’s golf at any time of the year.’
