The New 5 Star Cross Foxes is Back on the Map

Cross Foxes

Just two months since its launch, the Cross Foxes – Bar, Restaurant with Rooms – near Dolgellau, has been awarded a 5* Star Inn grading from Visit Wales for its newly opened accommodation, bar and grill. The nationally recognised 5* Star award translates as, ‘exceptional with a degree of luxury’ and is Visit Wales’ highest grade of quality.

With many visitors from the Midlands and North West Cities, the Cross Foxes is enjoying a real renaissance with its modern ‘Bar & Grill with Rooms’ format and design as it is a concept with which its many urban visitors are highly familiar. “We have discovered that the contemporary design blended with our stunning location and quality food gives city dwelling visitors the perfect combination – they feel at home and start to relax almost immediately,” comments Cross Foxes co-owner Nicol Gwynne.

This well known landmark, near Dolgellau, re-opened after seven years lying empty and derelict. Owners, Dewi and Nicol Gwynne spent two years rebuilding and transforming the former pub, into a new hospitality concept for the Mid Wales area – a Bar & Grill with Rooms.

The revitalised new venue is ideally situated, nestled at the foot of Cadair Idris, on the main A470/A487 route which is well known as ‘the meeting point’ connecting North and South Wales.

The Cross Foxes has a contemporary feel, but has used many natural materials and retains traditional features in its 21st century design – with locally sourced stone, slate and wood – to create an authentic, Mid Wales’ experience with a gentle modern twist.

Dewi Gwynne said “Our first priority is to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere – where people can really relax and feel at home. We want all our guests to sample and enjoy quality, locally sourced produce in our Grill; to provide a place to meet friends and family over a glass of wine, beer or coffee; and a new luxurious weekend venue for visitors to pamper themselves and explore our stunning Welsh landscape.”

With a French Head Chef and team of twenty staff in place, menus and special offers are available on the new website

The six boutique rooms have all been specially designed to reflect the local area and offer a sense of real luxury with a blend of modern and antique décor – ideal for both business travellers or weekend visitors looking to explore the region.
