Taste Montgomery - Eat, drink and taste life together

Taste Montgomery

Taste Montgomery will be inviting visitors to taste the good life in their marquee by the lakeside at the Welsh Food Festival - www.welshfoodfestival.co.uk - at Glansevern Hall, Berriew on September 3 and 4.

The marquee will be promoting the fruits of Montgomery, its people and its special landscape.

Montgomery is a historic town nestled in the rolling hills of the Welsh Marches. The stunning landscape is a fitting backdrop to the amazing abundance and rich diversity of the award winning food and drink producers who are concentrated within just six miles of the Town Square and the retail and hospitality providers within the parish.

The marquee will have plenty to drink with award winning beers from Monty’s Brewery, award winning ciders from Old Monty Cider and award winning wines from Penarth Vineyard.

There will be fabulous foods to sample too. Try Beef Bangers and Mash or Lamb Meatballs and Sauce from Morwen’s Montgomery Meat, or something unusual, like a Wagyu burgers made from the finest Japanese Black Wagyu beef from Ifor’s Welsh Wagyu.

Take home some award winning artisan flour and baking kits from Bachaldre Mill. To enhance your tasting experience, finish with gluten free cakes, bara brith and Polish cakes from Ivy House Tea rooms in Montgomery.

Mid Wales Local Food Talks will have a table too, where there will be a free prize draw with gifts donated by producers, retail and hospitality businesses based in Montgomery. Information about all the local businesses that are part of Taste Montgomery can be found here.

Look out for Sue Blower, Montgomery Town Crier, who will be promoting Taste Montgomery around the festival with trays of samples for everyone to try.

Other Taste Montgomery members will also have stalls around the festival. Look out for award winning smoked meats, garlic, eggs, salads and other goodies from Little Cefn Smokehouse and cook-ware from Bunner’s. Don’t miss the Checker’s Café or to take home some glorious cakes from Cakes Galore!

Stephane Borie, chef at the newly opened Checkers Hotel in Montgomery, will be in the demonstration tent creating recipes to inspire and delight and corporate entertainment chef Jason Elvin from London will be using the very best food Montgomeryshire has to offer to create his menu.

This summer, why not visit Montgomery again and taste ice-cream from Dairy Dreams, fresh fruit and vegetables from Dave Jones Fruit and Veg, handmade traditional sausages from The Whole Hog, or order quail eggs, free range geese and turkeys or rare breed pork from Hill Farm.

Taste wonderful cakes from Fabulous Cake Creations. Visit Castle Kitchen for freshly baked cakes or a delicious meal and try their well stocked deli where you can purchase artisan bread from Montgomery Real Bread, Bluebell Eggs and other Taste Montgomery produce. The Spar also supports local producers.

Stay at the famous Dragon Hotel, the newly refurbished Checkers, or the recently opened Nags Head, Llwyn House Bed and Breakfast, Brynwylfa or Hendomen Farm. You could just enjoy the stunning scenery and then call in for refreshments at The Crown public house or the Lion in Caerhowel.
