National Geographic* has just rated the Pembrokeshire Coast number two in the world, and what better way to see it than to walk the Pembrokeshire Coast Path?
Bookings for the 2011 trek, organised by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, are being taken now. The series of led walks takes place over two weeks from Saturday 28th May to Friday June 10th inclusive.
The 186-mile Coast Path is one of three National Trails in Wales and features some of the finest scenery in Europe. The annual trek is split into evenly paced day walks of between 12 and 14 miles, starting from Amroth on the Pembrokeshire-Carmarthenshire border and winding its way up to Poppit Sands, near Cardigan, in the north of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.
Just 21 people can take part in the 14-day walk at a cost of £186 per person. A deposit of £90 will secure your place on a first come, first served basis.
National Park Authority Outreach Officer David Matthews said: “This walk offers a fresh and spectacular vista around every headland, and it’s a bargain at £1 a mile - with open air exercise included.
“Anyone is welcome to join us; you don’t need to be an expert, but be aware that walking the Coast Path is a challenge because of the number of daily miles and differing gradients. We aim to make sure everyone on the walk can complete it at their own pace. You can find out all about the National Trail online at www.nt.pcnpa.org.uk "
After you have paid your deposit, the balance is due no less than one month before the start of the event. Cheques should be made payable to Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, and correspondence addressed to Education Services Team, PCNPA, Llanion Park, Pembroke Dock, Pembrokeshire, SA72 6DY, or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone 0845 345 7275.
Walkers need to find their own overnight accommodation and need their own transport to reach the different meeting points each day. Outward coach transport is provided by the Authority at the start of each day and a dedicated support vehicle shadows the party. For a Visit Wales list of accommodation providers visit www.visitwales.com or contact the Authority on 0845 345 7275.
The Pembrokeshire coast was voted the second best coastal destination in the world by National Geographic Travel Magazine in October 2010.
