It’s not often you get the chance to ride out with an Olympic cycling gold medallist. But Bluestone National Park Resort in West Wales has teamed up with Welsh pro Geraint Thomas MBE who will lead a new Cycling Training Camp at the five-star resort later this year.
The Team Sky professional road and track cyclist took gold at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and in September he will lead a training camp at Bluestone where he will take riders on some of the most stunning cycle routes in the UK, as well as offering personal advice, guidance and encouragement.
Bluestone, a luxury short-break resort in Wales’ Pembrokeshire National Park, will provide a base for the camp with its luxury lodge accommodation and array of facilities, including the Well Spa, where cyclists will be able to undergo relaxing treatments or chill-out in the thermal suite after a hard days ride.
The Cycling Training Camp will take place between Friday, 30th September and Monday, 3rd October. The weekend will include two ride-outs of between three and five hours with Geraint and a nutrition workshop from CNP Professional who are the official nutritionalists to Team GB and Team Sky.
Riders will also have the chance to spend time with Geraint at social events in the evenings and at presentations on cycling and training, as well as enjoying the restaurants and other facilities at Bluestone, available separately, which include the exhilarating Steep Ravine and its adrenaline pumping climbing activities, as well as the Blue Lagoon water park, laser clay shooting, archery and much more for the action-hungry guest.
Geraint, who recently won a silver medal and gold medal at the Manchester World Cup and wore the white jersey in last year’s Tour de France, said: “I’m looking forward to having an opportunity to work with other cyclists and to pass on any advice I can, as well as riding-out with cyclists of all abilities during the Cycle Training Camp at Bluestone.”
He added: “It’s not often I get to take part in such an activity and having the spectacular cycle routes around the Pembrokeshire National Park to look forward to, as well as staying at Bluestone, should provide a great opportunity.”
The camp includes five-star accommodation, lunch, Spa thermal room entry, two cycling ride-outs with Geraint, a Sunday lunch prize presentation and a bag full of cycling goodies.
Yvonne Buckingham, Head of Marketing at Bluestone said: “The Cycling Training Camp is a great way for cyclists of all abilities to train and ride-out with a world-class cyclist such as Geraint and to gain advice and encouragement from an Olympic gold medalist, which isn’t something you have the chance to do everyday.
“Combine the training camp with the five-star Bluestone resort and it’ll be a great weekend for those taking part.”
