A fabulous haul of new events have been confirmed for this summer’s Pembrokeshire Fish Week festival.
The best food festival in the UK, according to visitbritain.com, will take place between June 23rd and July 1st.
Brand new for this year is an open air midsummer gig at Milford Haven dockside with music from The Fuse, an alternative rock band from London, The Shaws, an acclaimed indie/rock band and favourite local rock combo The Pennysows.
The gig will take place at the Mackerel Stage on Friday 22nd June from 7.30pm, with tickets available from the Torch Theatre.
The following day, June 23rd, is the big Fish Week opening day at Milford Haven docks has a host of fresh faces and activities including new chefs, demos, and activities.
Anand George of ‘The Purple Poppadom’ in Cardiff will be holding demos throughout the day on Indian fish cookery, as well as smaller cookery workshops during Fish Week.
Don’t miss the new ‘Blas-y-tir’ Feast on Fish pop-up restaurant, sponsored by Puffin Produce, where you can enjoy delicious fresh fish signature dishes from local restaurants.
The following day, June 24th, there is a great new dance festival D12 at Milford Haven Docks, on a stage sponsored by Milford Haven Port Authority.
The dance includes contemporary, hip hop, belly dance and free running with performances by professional dancers and various dance groups. There are free workshops throughout day and the festival is held by Arts Care Gofal Celf.
If you love your food, make sure you reserve your seat for the eagerly-awaited celebrity chef seafood masterclass at the Torch Theatre in Milford Haven on 27th June.
Making their first appearance at Fish Week are highly respected chefs Alun Williams and Ravinder Bhogal, together with well-known chefs Bryn Williams and Anthony Evans.
And new this year is a Dive and Dine pre-demo supper at the café in the Torch Theatre – cooked by the visiting chefs. Enjoy a main course from Bryn Williams, dessert by Alyn Williams, and a selection of canapés to start.
Other delicious new events for foodies include a seven course fish tasting menu at Hammet House, Llechryd, a Spanish-themed day at Lydstep Tavern, Lydstep, and a five-course seafood tasting menu at Hotel Plas Hyfryd, Narberth.
There’s also a seafood feast BBQ and paella party at The Griffin Inn, Dale, a daily really wild fish dish at The Canteen, Newport, a barbecue night on the garden terrace at The Grove, Narberth and much more.
And if you want to satisfy your appetite and your adrenaline, then there’s plenty on the menu!
New for 2012 are surfing, kayaking, coasteering and abseiling lessons at various locations with Dragon Activity Guides on the North Pembrokeshire coast. Take up their irresistible offer to relax as they prepare you a fresh seafood meal back at the beach, from acqua pazza to surf’ n’ turf and whole fresh dressed crab.
More new activities include wild food foraging walks with Clear Conscience Activities and beginners’ hedgerow and seashore foraging walks with Wild About Pembrokeshire.
There are also lots of great family activities. If your children enjoy cooking, then don’t miss a fun, fishy feast of an afternoon for all the family with ‘Kids Cooking with The Stars’. The live cookery show in Folly Farm’s theatre at Folly Farm with madcap duo Ant and Al from S4C’s Stwnsh Sadwrn will be encouraging children and their parents to cook (and eat!) local, sustainable fish.
Creative children can enjoy new funky flag making workshops, and river sampling and fishy art with the Darwin Centre and Oriel y Parc in St Davids.
And to finish the festival with a flourish, come along to the Festival of The Sea at Saundersfoot Harbour on July 1st - a day of activities on the sea and seashore.
