More Top Awards for Celtic Manor Resort
Celtic Manor Resort, Newport, was named as best resort in Wales in the inaugural Today’s Golfer travel awards. The Ryder Cup-hosting Twenty Ten was chosen as the country’s top course, with Royal Porthcawl and Royal St David’s following in second and third place respectively.
Winners were chosen by a vote of thousands of Today’s Golfer readers. The only other clubs to top both of their regional categories were The Belfry and K Club, both former Ryder Cup venues. The awards keep on coming for Celtic Manor: it was also recently named as best UK Golf Club by readers of Club Mirror, beating off competition from Gleneagles, Royal Birkdale, Sunningdale and Wentworth.
‘It’s always pleasing to win awards but it’s particularly satisfying that these awards have been voted for by readers,’ said Matthew Lewis, Celtic Manor’s director of Golf and Leisure. ‘We enjoyed a record year for numbers of visiting golfers in 2011 and the fact they have chosen us for these accolades is the finest endorsement we can get, particularly when you look at the quality of the other clubs and venues in the running.’
