Mid Wales B & B voted fourth in Britain by magazine readers
Readers of Country Walking magazine have voted Ffynnon Cadno Guest House at Ponterwyd, near Aberystwyth fourth in the top 10 places to stay in Britain.
John and Jill Wall, who run this small Bed and Breakfast business, have used their experience gained over many years in the hospitality sector to provide a warm welcome for their guests.
After careers in the Civil Service and the closure of the Trawsgoed office in 1995, they bought The George Borrow Hotel in Ponterwyd, which was sold in 2002 when they moved to Ffynnon Cadno - www.ffynnoncadno.co.uk - and opened it as a four star rated B and B.
Jill said that the Country Walking magazine recommendation came completely out of the blue. “We are, of course, very pleased to be recognised in this way but we treat all our guests in the same way with a welcoming cup of tea and cake and hopefully make them feel welcome,” she added.
“We meet some lovely people from all over the world, many of whom return for repeat visits. Our motto has always been ‘Arrive as a guest and leave as a friend’ and perhaps this has had something to do with our nomination.”
One of the recommendations about Ffynnon Cadno was "at Ponterwyd near Aberystwyth. After eating the full breakfast, you can forget your packed lunch. It sits in the shadow of the Cambrian Mountains and George Borrow passed it on his journey through Wild Wales".
