A new fine dining restaurant opens in Penarth this week, cooking local specialities in a dramatic location.
Restaurant James Sommerin will offer diners a real sense of place, with a range of tasting menus named in Welsh after elements of the restaurant’s dramatic backdrop, each evoking a distinct flavour of the restaurant’s surroundings and local heritage.
The 70-seat restaurant includes a private dining room and even a special chef’s table in the kitchen itself, offering the chance for two to four diners at a time to experience a unique 14 course menu and dine in the restaurant’s kitchen itself.
The Chef’s Table menu is priced at £150 per person; it’s an immersive dining experience where guests can sit back and enjoy the sheer theatre of the kitchen. The Chef’s Table experience kicks off with a glass of bubbly on arrival and is rounded off with a goodie bag for diners to take home and enjoy.
With breathtaking panoramic views over the Severn Estuary and an open-plan kitchen arrangement that allows diners a behind-the-scenes view of the action, the dining experience here is a multi-sensory one.
The restaurant itself is an elegant yet down-to-earth dining space, blending light silvers and creamy tones with deep purples and a feature wall constructed of local Welsh slate.
