A bed and breakfast in the heart of the Towy Valley has enchanted visitors globally and led it to become named one of the best in the world.
Award-winning Llwyn Helyg Country House in Llanarthne has added the coveted title of being among TripAdvisor’s World Top 10 B&Bs.
The stunning house, which is only a few miles away from the National Botanic Gardens of Wales and famous Aberglasney Gardens, was rated sixth in the poll. It was awarded for its service, staff and views. The B&B was also fifth in Europe and third in the UK.
Couple Caron and Fiona Jones said they first bought the site back in 1997 and the building process had been a 10-year labour of love. The B&B first opened in 2012.
Mr Jones said he was delighted with the award and added: “No-one expects to win anything in a short time, we are delighted.
“We were building the house for 10 years, we did it as a self-build project. We designed it and were on site every day, we have a real attachment to the building. It’s doubly good to win awards as we know every nook and cranny of the building.”
He added: “It’s only my wife and myself who work here. We only have three rooms as it’s the only way we can give people the attention they deserve.”
James Kay, a TripAdvisor spokesman, said: “The good news for all our winners is that they stand to gain more than just the prestige of an award title — a recent TripAdvisor survey showed that 83 per cent of Brits say awards like this influence their decision to book a hotel.”
