Latest Cognation mountain biking project has official opening
A new £1.8 million Mountain Bike Park was officially opened in Merthyr Tydfil last week, forming park of the major Cognation project which aims to make South Wales an internationally recognised mountain biking destination.
BikePark Wales is already becoming a major tourism attraction, welcoming over 20,000 visitors within the first five months of opening, as well as holding the Welsh National Downhill Championship in October 2013.
As the latest purpose built mountain trail centre in Wales, BikePark Wales has over 23 sections of mountain bike trails ranging from black national downhill trails to a family trail and pump track (a short loop to help improve riding skills). As well as this diverse offering of trails BikePark Wales also has a visitor centre with café and bike shop and rental facilities, car park and vehicle uplift. The uplift service offers riders the chance to be transported to the summit of Mynydd Gethin in order for them to enjoy the descent.
