Fans of the Bafta Cymru award winning noir crime drama ‘Y Gwyll/Hinterland’ will have a chance to follow in the footsteps of DCI Tom Mathias in 2015 thanks to the launch of eight guided walks based on the series on March 1st 2015.
Dafydd Wyn Morgan, of Twm’s Treks, who organises guided walks in the Cambrian Mountains, has worked closely with S4C and Fiction Factory, co-producer of the series, to developed the package.
The walks take in an area stretching from Cardigan Bay to the remote Cambrian Mountains, visiting locations used in the filming of the first hit series of Y Gwyll/Hinterland, starring Richard Harrington as the moody DCI Mathias.
The locations include the seaside town of Aberystwyth, the Ceredigion Coast around where DCI Mathias’ caravan is based, Tynrhyd to Trisant, Llyn Eiddwen, near Tregaron, Devil’s Bridge, Halfway Inn, Pisgah, Artists Valley and Borth.
A minimum of five people are required for each walk, which costs a maximum of £10 per person(price per person dependent on numbers and route choice).
“There couldn’t be a better advert for Ceredigion and the Cambrian Mountains than Y Gwyll/Hinterland,” said Dafydd. “I’m currently working with 28 businesses in the hope of boosting the local economy through the walks.”
Y Gwyll/Hinterland, a co-production by The Fiction Factory with Tinopolis and All3Media, recently won three Bafta Cymru awards - director fiction for Marc Evans, writer for Jeff Murphy and photography and lighting for Richard Stoddard.
Dafydd has been guiding walks since 1994 in his home area of Tregaron and around Ceredigion and many parts of Wales and the UK. “I love walking and meeting people and I am co-operating with Ceredigion tourism businesses to offer people an opportunity to share with me this wonderful countryside of ours,” he said. ”Many Y Gwyll/Hinterland viewers can now visit the film locations by completing the 8 walks and hopefully some will decide to do all 8”.
“It’s another reasons to enjoy the great outdoors of Ceredigion and visit places that many will have seen during the first series of Y Gwyll/Hinterland.”
