The Felin Fach Griffin, has won two major awards from the new edition of The Good Pub Guide. It is named Dining Pub of the Year for Wales for the second time, as well as being named as Inn of the Year for the whole of the United Kingdom.


The Griffin has been owned since May 2000 by brothers Charles and Edmund Inkin through their company, EATDRINKSLEEP. It has seven bedrooms and a thriving bar and restaurant, and is grounded in their belief in doing the simple things well. Julie Bell is host at The Griffin and Ross Bruce has been Head Chef since 2011.


The brothers took on The Gurnard’s Head, near Zennor and St. Ives, in 2006, and the gentle growth of this family-owned Welsh business continued in 2011 with the purchase of the iconic West Cornwall seaside hotel, The Old Coastguard, in Mousehole. The latter succeeds The Gurnard’s Head as Dining Pub of the Year for Cornwall in the same 2013 Good Pub Guide after just 12 months under the ownership of the Inkins.


The 2013 Good Pub Guide says of The Felin Fach Griffin: “Year after year we get confirmation from readers that this splendid dining pub with rooms is doing everything right. With more soul than most hotels, The Griffin is faultlessly run yet comfortably informal, with eggs from their own hens for your breakfast”.


Edmund Inkin commented on the Good Pub Guide’s Inn of the Year award, “We’re pretty gobsmacked at this award. Recognition like this from The Good Pub Guide is the holy grail for those of us who are trying to remain rooted in our local community, balancing well executed food with comfortable rooms and great but sensibly priced beer and wine. Julie Bell added, “This is a great part of the world to have a pub. Fantastic, innovative brewers, great ingredients for our kitchen and a landscape to die for. This part of what makes Wales great. My only difficulty is resisting the temptation to take my dog off into the hills every day.”
