It’s a little known fact, but Wales once had its own Parliament. Old Parliament House, located in the beautiful market town of Machynlleth in mid-Wales, is a remarkable survivor from the Middle Ages. It is also the venue where you can now enjoy The Welsh Experience - a new and unique package launched in 2015 to mark the 600th anniversary of Owain Glyndwr’s disappearance. These events can be pre-booked by groups of 20-50 and can be held during the daytime or evenings.
Owain Glyndŵr, a figurehead of Welsh nationalism, led a rebellion against the occupying English forces of Henry IV in the fourteenth century and declared himself Prince of Wales. By June 1402, Glyndŵr had recaptured and controlled most of Wales and successfully drew up mutual recognition treaties with France and Spain.
The Old Parliament House building itself is a magnificent Grade 1 listed stone structure from the late medieval period, offering an inspiring setting with an amazing atmosphere and a great welcome.
The Welsh Experience events will see guests invited to sit back and enjoy a delicious, medieval themed meal, or a Welsh afternoon tea, made from local, Welsh ingredients. There will also be Welsh themed entertainment including singers, a harpist and a few other special guests.
