The Newbridge on Usk is celebrating a double awards success for the quality of its cuisine and lodgings.
The country inn owned by The Celtic Manor Resort has been awarded a coveted second AA rosette for its restaurant and a five-star rating for its rooms from Visit Wales.
The Newbridge on Usk was acquired by Celtic Manor last year and occupies an idyllic spot on the banks of the river, six miles upstream from the main resort.
According to its own guidelines, the AA only bestows two rosettes on “excellent restaurants, which aim for and achieve higher standards, better consistency and where a greater precision is apparent in the cooking. There will be obvious attention to the selection of quality ingredients.”
The six stylish en-suite bedrooms at the Newbridge have also just been upgraded from a four-star to a five-star rating with Visit Wales following refurbishment.
General manager Stephen Wadcock said: “Everyone has worked really hard in the year since Celtic Manor took over the property to make the Newbridge on Usk an inviting place for people to come and eat, and to stay.
“The Newbridge has traditionally enjoyed a good reputation for fine food served in a wonderful location and we have sought to re-establish that with new menus concentrating on using quality local produce.
“It is very rewarding to have earned a second AA rosette so quickly and we are all delighted to have achieved five-star recognition from Visit Wales for the bedrooms.”
The Newbridge is an 80-cover restaurant with rustic wooden floors, fireplaces, traditional bar, a spacious mezzanine and terraced gardens for al fresco dining alongside the river.
Menu favourites include Sewin Welsh sea trout with Penclawdd cockles, Madgett’s Farm roast duck breast and succulent Usk Valley sirloin steak.
The elegant bedrooms all boast oak and teak furniture, oak floors, roll top baths and storm showers.
Owing to its fabulous riverside setting, guests also have the opportunity to enjoy fly, spin and bait fishing on the River Usk, with an experienced ghillie available to offer guidance.
