Cardigan restaurant awarded first AA rosette for culinary excellence

The restaurant at Caemorgan Mansion in Cardigan has been awarded its first AA rosette for culinary excellence.

 

Since opening three years ago, the mansion has collected an array of awards for excellence in service and quality, including Best Guest Accommodation in Wales 2016/2017.

 

The latest addition of a rosette has marked Caemorgan out as distinctive spot to eat in Cardigan and Ceredigion and reflects the commitment by the catering staff to produce consistently high quality products and service in its restaurant alongside its guest accommodation.

 

The restaurant is open to non-residents throughout the year - except Christmas week, when it is closed - and provides an excellent selection of high quality, locally sourced food in an elegant Georgian dining room.

Signature dishes, such as scallops on a bacon and sage base with white wine reduction, local lamb cutlets on a bed of courgette ribbons with red wine and rosemary jus followed by Gordon Ramsay’s recipe rice pudding easily impressed the AA inspector and demonstrated the high quality of food prepared by resident chef Abbie Jenkins.

 

“We are really delighted with the award which makes the team’s hard work that much more rewarding,” said Abbie.

 

Owner Beverley Harrison-Wood oversees the front of house service and manages the exclusive wine list sourced in conjunction with Bibendum Wines of London. Beverley, who is trained to WSET standards, is on hand to offer advice on wine pairing, a quality highly rated by the inspector.

 

Abbie and owner/chef David Harrison-Wood design and execute the menus to ensure diversity of product to suit a wide range of tastes and strive to include as much locally sourced product as possible. Along with the main menu dishes, Abbie also has a full steak menu from 'T' bones to fillets, all sourced from a local herd.

 

David said: "We are justly proud of the rosette award as it reflects the commitment of all of the team to consistently deliver an excellent product. We are equally proud of our growing customer base who return again and again to sample the superb food we offer at Caemorgan."
