An evening celebrating the continued growth of Wrexham’s Tourism offer was held on Friday 16th October at Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse.
Now in its second year, the awards coordinated by the Wrexham Destination Partnership provide an opportunity for businesses taking part in the Wrexham Tourism Ambassador Scheme to be recognised for their effort, commitment and excellence.
Winners on the evening included the Ramada Plaza Wrexham who took home ‘best large accommodation provider’ whilst for the second year running, Willington Lodge and The Plassey Holiday Park took home the titles of best small accommodation provider and best self-catering provider respectively.
Following their successful year which included winning the Wrexham Burger Challenge last Spring, the Royal Oak in Bangor-on-Dee won best local restaurant whilst the Bridge End Inn, Ruabon took home the award for best local pub.
Four new businesses featured in the ‘best new tourism business category’ including the popular Emz Cakes, Cleopatra’s Holt and Hoffi Coffee, however it was Tower Hill Barns from Trevor who took home that award.
Wales Comic Con just edged ahead of FOCUS Wales and Underneath the Arches as best visitor event in 2015, whilst Scot Mulvaney from the Premier Inn, Wrexham was recognised as the ‘rising star in local tourism'. The Premier Inn also won an award for Outstanding Customer Service.
Other winners included The Holt Lodge Hotel for their commitment as Wrexham Tourism Ambassadors, Motor Safari for the Best Use of Social Media and the Tea Rooms, Chirk for Sourcing Local Produce.
The evening was rounded off with Peter McGivern from the Bridge End Inn Ruabon being awarded a trophy for his contribution to local tourism.
