Betws-y-Coed offically the Gateway to Snowdonia
Betws-y-Coed, the picturesque visitor detination nestled in the foothills of Snowdonia has this summer been designated the official gateway village to Snowdonia.
The village was officially named with a new welcome sign and planter.
This new status comes after 2 years of campaigning by the village tourism association.
Over 500.000 visitors flock to the region, many have the heart set on walking the various paths up Snowdon - the highest mountain in England & Wales at 1.080mts.
Bernard Owen from the tourism association said - "After over a century of welcoming tourists from all around the world, our village has obtained the recognition it justly deserves. Last year over 80.000 visitors made Betws-y-Coed their holiday destination with an additional 400.000 day visitors. With the Olympics being held in Britain next year, 2012 looks to be an exciting year with many overseas visitors making their way to explore Snowdonia the jewel in
the crown of North Wales".
