Anglesey sea salt gets protected status
Sea salt from Anglesey has been granted the same protected status as Parma ham and Champagne after the European Commission awarded it protected food name status.
Anglesey sea salt is the second Welsh product to gain protected status, following a ruling in 2013 on Pembrokeshire potatoes. Growers of Denbigh plums have also applied for protected status, which guarantees the authenticity of a product and makes sure that food is prepared, processed and prepared in a certain local area with recognised expertise so creating a specialised product.
Anglesey Sea Salt comes from salt flakes harvested from the Menai Strait in Anglesey, with a mineral content that makes it unique in appearance, texture and taste.
