Aberyswyth Couple Launch unique Seafood cafe-bar

A young local couple, passionate about good food and especially fish, have recently established a seafood café-bar called Pysgoty near the harbour in Aberystwyth.

Craig Edwards and his wife Rhiannon have set themselves the goal of ensuring that Pysgoty becomes the place for fish aficionados in the Aberystwyth area. Their exciting and creative menu is based as far as possible on local fish caught by fishermen in Cardigan Bay. Since Pysgoty opened in late April customers have been regaled with delicious local crabs, prawns, lobster and sea bass.

Pysgoty is located above the marina on the one hand and the south beach on the other, with Aberystwyth castle as a splendid backdrop. As well as excellent food, therefore, there are glorious views and peerless sunsets to enjoy. The local staff pride themselves on offering customers a warm welcome and a friendly, efficient and bilingual service.

According to many, transforming a building that was once a public toilet and then a fishermen’s store into a smart seafood café-bar was an inspired idea, and it’s no wonder that townspeople and visitors have extended such a warm welcome to Pysgoty and the old stone building in its contemporary guise.

The roots of this enterprising young couple lie deep in the Aberystwyth area. Rhiannon is a native of Blaenplwyf and has close links with Penparcau. Craig was raised in the Penrhyn-coch area before later moving to Bow Street. The two have since settled in Llandre. Rhiannon chose a career as a chef after following university courses. She then trained young students in the catering field before entering the business world. Computers and Information Technology were Craig’s chosen field and he was a valuable member of the computer team of the Education Department of Ceredigion County Council before embarking on a new career as joint-manager of a fish market and a new eatery.

Pysgoty is open between 10.00 am and 5.00 pm every day except Sunday and Monday until the autumn. From the beginning of June onwards it will be open for meals on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings also. As there are only a limited number of tables available at one time within Pysgoty, Rhiannon and Craig’s are advising customers to ring beforehand to reserve a table. Tables are also available on the decking outside offering the same menu – all that is needed now is fine weather this summer to accompany the excellent food at Pysgoty!
