Aberystwyth Farmers Market has been named best food market in the UK in the BBC Radio 4 Food and Farming Awards.
The 30-stall market takes place on the first and third Saturday of the month, and specialises in local produce, giving a unique traceability to the foods sold.
Wales achieved a second victory at the awards with the Pembrokeshire Beach Food Company winning the best street food/ takeaway category. The Pembrokeshire company combines local seafood with foraged seashore ingredients and sells its food from mobile beach shacks.
Aberystwyth Farmers' Market was established in 2000. In 2011 it was voted into the top 10 Farmers Markets in the UK by The Times newspaper; the only Welsh market to be included.
The BBC Radio 4 Food and Farming Awards sees a panel of judges made up of some of the UK's best-known chefs and food writers select finalists across 10 categories.
Chef and writer Valentine Warner chaired this year’s panel of judges which also included farmer and Countryfile presenter Adam Henson, blogger Jack Monroe, food writer Charles Campion and chefs Raymond Blanc and Richard Corrigan.
