The Crown at Whitebrook was last night (Monday 26.9.11) named Wales Restaurant of the Year.
The Crown, a Michelin star restaurant since 2007, was also awarded three AA rosettes becoming one of just a handful in Wales to gain this coveted accolade. One other is sister restaurant The Crown at Celtic Manor.
The announcement of the recognition, which will appear in the prestigious AA Restaurant Guide 2011-12, came at a glittering AA awards ceremony at London’s prestigious Park Lane Hilton.
Only last month (August) The Crown at Whitebrook, near Monmouth, was listed at 28 in the influential Good Food Guide 2012 and placed best in Wales in its highly regarded top 50 restaurants in the UK.
Jonathan Davies, Director of Crown Hotels and Restaurants owner of The Crown at Whitebrook and the already acclaimed three AA Rosette Crown at Celtic Manor restaurants was in London, along with Executive Head Chef James Sommerin, to personally accept the awards.
James, from Newport who recently celebrated 11 years at The Crown, said: “Being top Restaurant in Wales in the Good Food Guide was a stunning success and now getting this brilliant recognition from the AA, named Wales Restaurant of the Year and being awarded three AA Rosettes, well, it’s truly awesome.”
Jonathan Davies said: “We are thrilled and extraordinarily delighted to have been recognised in this very special way with this prestigious accolade from the AA. The two awards , Best Restaurant in Wales and the three AA Rosettes, are testament to the exceptional dedication and unstinting hard work put in by the marvellously talented team of individuals that we have at The Crown.
Mr Davies said: “The AA is recognised as one of the world’s most highly respected brands. The AA awards mark a further step along the journey for The Crown in achieving our ultimate aim of being recognised internationally as a world culinary centre of excellence. We will prominently display these very special AA awards with tremendous pride at Whitebrook.”
Simon Numphud, Business Manager AA Hotel Services said of the award for The Crown: “The AA Restaurant of the Year for Wales Award recognises a restaurant for providing cuisine of a truly excellent standard as well as demonstrating innovation and ambience and providing a high standard of service and hospitality.”
The 2011-12 AA Restaurant Guide is published this month (September).
