National Museum Wales consists of 7 museums around Wales.  All are free entry:-


  • National Museum Cardiff, South Wales
    No other British museum offers such a dazzling range of displays on art, natural history and science as you find gathered under one roof at the National Museum Cardiff. The collection of Impressionist paintings is especially impressive!  The National Museum’s mix of fine and applied art, from the historic to the contemporary, is shown in a single series of integrated galleries at Wales's National Museum of Art.
  • St Fagans : National History Museum, South Wales
    This is one of Europe's biggest and most exciting open-air museums. Centuries of Wales' tradition, culture, industry and costume are gathered together in a hundred acres of beautiful countryside. The National History Musuem gives you the chance to travel from the Celtic village of 2,000 years ago to a miner's cottage of the 1980's.   
  • Big Pit National Coal Museum, Blaenavon, South Wales
    Big Pit, an award-winning national musuem is a real coal mine with tours 300 ft underground with real miners.   Visitors can also explore the mining galleries, the pithead baths and colliery buildings.
  • National Wool Museum, Drefach Felindre, West Wales
    The National Wool Museum re-opened in 2004 following major re-development. Discover why Drefach Felindre was once the centre of a thriving woollen industry in Wales.
  • National Slate Museum, Llanberis North Wales
    The National Slate Museum is a working piece of history. The story of slate is told within the Victorian workshops where most of the machinery and plant is preserved in its original condition and skilled craftsmen demonstrate traditional skills of splitting and dressing slate every day. 
  • National Waterfront Museum, Swansea, South Wales
    The National Waterfront Museum is designed to celebrate Welsh history, culture and achievement and to tell the story of Wales' industrial and maritime heritage and its role in shaping today's economy and society.
  • National Roman Legion Museum, Caerleon, South Wales
    Today at the Roman Legionary Museum Caerleon, you can learn what made the Romans a formidable force and how life wouldn't be the same without them.

  • Abergavenny Museum, South Wales
    Set in the grounds of a ruined castle, Abergavenny Museum presents the story of this historic market town from Prehistoric and Roman times right through to the present day.
  • Cefn Coed Colliery Museum, South Wales
    Cefn Coed Colliery is unique, standing as it does in one of the most beautiful valleys in the South Wales coalfield. Discover what it was like for miners who worked underground, in some of the most difficult conditions experienced anywhere in the world.
  • Chepstow Museum, South Wales
    Chepstow Museum reveals the rich and varied past of this ancient town. Wine trade, shipbuilding and salmon fishing are among Chepstow's many industries featured in displays with atmospheric settings.


  • The Egypt Centre, Swansea, West Wales
    This is a small Museum, specialising in Egyptian antiquities. There are over 5,000 items in the collection. They offer one hour guided tours set over two rooms in various languages. They can accommodate coaches at the University. There is a lift to both floors and the Museum, Cafe and WCs are all fully accessible.
  • Llangollen Motor Museum, North Wales
    Llangollen Motor Museum has more than 60 vehicles from cars to invalid carriages and pedal cars, a 50's village garage scene complete with owners quarters and a small exhibition showing the history and development of our canal network.
  • National Coracle Centre, West Wales
    The National Coracle Centre in Cenarth showcases the history of coracles and the techniques and tools for building them. It houses an international collection of coracles. Guided tours of both museum and the 17th century flour mill are available.
